In the face of climate change and increasing heat, a major initiative has emerged to give Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district a green identity. Surajgarh Ispat Private Limited and MIAM Charitable Trust have taken a significant step in the field of environmental protection by dedicating 500,000 saplings to the Maharashtra government as part of the Green Gadchiroli Mission. This is not just a tree-planting campaign, but a comprehensive mission that integrates nature, employment, and social development.
Nita Joshi, founder of MIAM Charitable Trust and director of Surajgarh Ispat, presented this ambitious plan to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during a special meeting in Mumbai. The 500,000 trees to be planted under the mission will play a vital role in increasing Gadchiroli’s green cover, preserving biodiversity, and strengthening climate balance.
The uniqueness of this initiative is that it directly involves the local community in the production, planting, and conservation of the plants. This has provided employment to over 200 women and created new livelihood opportunities for hundreds of tribal families. This model of environmental protection and rural economic empowerment is being considered a significant step in moving Gadchiroli towards a green, self-reliant, and sustainable future.
