India’s plastics industry poised for a four-fold increase in exports

Powered by MSMEs, plastics sector sets big export target

India’s plastics industry is now rapidly moving towards global leadership. With over 94,000 MSME units and approximately 9 million jobs, the sector has set an ambitious target of quadrupling the export of finished plastic products. The All India Plastics Manufacturers Association (AIPMA) is taking strategic initiatives in this direction, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India, Make for the World” vision.

To accelerate this mission, Plastiworld 2026 is being organised at Jio World Convention Centre from 23–26 March 2026, which will be an important platform connecting Indian manufacturers with global buyers.

Arvind Mehta, Chairman of the AIPMA Governing Council, said, “Plastiworld is not just a platform for business expansion, but a national mission to make India a global hub for plastic finished products.” Currently, India’s plastic exports are around $12.5 billion, representing about 1% of the global share. Industry experts believe that with the right policy support, new polymer parks, and increased MSME production, the sector can expand rapidly. Sunil Shah, President of AIPMA, said, “This initiative will empower millions of MSMEs and create large-scale employment.”

With participation of around 200 international buyers, the event is being considered a decisive step towards establishing India as a global sourcing hub for plastic products.
